Connecting your USB Hard Drive with USB 2.0 Interface
  • Desktop USB user: If your drive comes with a power supply connect the power supply to the drive and the AC power cable and plug it into a power outlet. The green power LED should be illuminated.
  • Connect the USB cable to the USB port on your computer. The USB cable and port are usually identified by "USB" or the USB symbol:
  • Connect the other end of the USB cable to the drive and turn the drive on. The blue power LED should be illuminated.
  • The Windows® 2000, Me and XP operating systems will recognize the new hardware and configure accordingly.
  • Verify that the drive can be seen in the ‘My Computer’ option of the Windows Start menu; if not, check all cable connections to the drive and reboot the computer.

Common Troubleshooting Questions

  • Have you tried attaching the drive to a different USB socket?
  • Have you tried another computer?
  • Is the USB connection on you computer USB2? (It may be USB1 for very old machines)
  • Is the drive letter that was assigned to the USB drive conflicting with an existing mapping on their computer?
  • Have you tried attaching an additional power supply?
