Please take a moment to thoroughly read these instructions prior to restoring your recovered data.

1. Preparation

Before attempting to restore recovered data (regardless of the operating system), your system should meet the following criteria:

Important:Only user  files such as those in  “My Documents” should be restored . Applications should be re-installed from your application CDs or from the downloaded installation files. You may cause system corruption by overwriting system and/or application files.

2. Restore Recovered Data

Accessing your recovered data

External Hard Drive Once you have connected the external hard drive you have received from Kroll Ontrack with your recovered data, follow these steps:

  • Select the ‘My Computer’ option of the Windows Start menu.
  • Double-click the drive labelled with the job number(i.e: 123456) or labbeled as "DataRecovery"
  • The next steps to follow will depend on your operating system and the service agreement you have signed. You should have received an email from one of our representatives with detailed instructions on how to restore the recovered data to your system.

Locating the files on your hard drive

Your restored files can be located using Windows Explorer. They are usually located in the following folders:

  • .. \Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\
  • .. \Documents and settings\<username>\Desktop\
