Companies looking to improve data security and data storage effectiveness might want to invest in a tiered storage solution.InfoStor has reported that tiered storage can be an effective way of improving data security and performance of servers, as different types of information can be stored in areas tailored for their purpose.
For example, some types of information will be accessed more frequently; therefore these files will have a greater degree of backup to records which are accessed infrequently.
In addition, tiered storage can provide differing levels of access, with online backup and offline data storage being carried out in separate servers.
Energy efficiency is one of the chief benefits of employing this form of server configuration, because not all drives need to be active at all times, thereby reducing overall power usage.
Meanwhile, Computer Weekly recently reported that by employing data deduplication, virtualisation and tiered-storage software, businesses can improve their data management efficiency and reduce the likelihood of information becoming corrupted.
