Storage virtualisation 'could improve efficiency'

Data storage virtualisation could offer some significant benefits to businesses across the UK, it has been claimed.

Dana Gardner, principal analyst at Interarbor Solutions, said in his blog for IT Director that many firms are at present only utilising up to 20 per cent of server space and as such, could be prime candidates for storage virtualisation in order to boost this figure.

He wrote: "If businesses don't reevaluate their storage infrastructures at the same time as they're reevaluating their server infrastructures, they really won't realise the full potential of a server virtualisation."

Elsewhere, Arthur Cole recently wrote in his blog for IT Business Edge that more businesses are turning to virtualisation in order to improve their data management efficiency.

As a result, he noted it is becoming increasingly important for firms to invest in data recovery measures to ensure they do not suffer excessive downtime and lost data in the event of a crisis.
