The benefits of implementing data deduplication for a business include the freeing up of vast swathes of storage capacity, it has been claimed.
According to IT security website Search Security, firms could more than halve their
data storage volumes by carrying out this technique.
Files stored in multiple locations are of little use when they are to backed up, the website noted. As such, it is important that IT departments rigorously look to remove duplicate data before it is stored - as a company will be charged to store files it does not need to.
Also, the website stated that data recovery can be more difficult if adequate deduplication procedures are not in place, as a business will have more data to recover, as well as having multiple copies of information which can less efficient.
