An online security wikipedia for national professionals in the industry has been launched, to allow information to be shared on technology issues and best practise, a report says.
Intellect, the trade association for the UK technology industry, launched Securipedia, which is expected to be an open platform for the government, academia, the private sector and the voluntary sector to collaborate, computing.co.uk says.
Entries on the forum include a link to the Cabinet Office's report on data handling procedures in government, which states that: "Those in public service need to keep that information secure, in order to build public confidence," a notion that could be said to have been forgotten with recent
data security breaches.
Most recently, three hard drives have been stolen from the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency at RAF Innsworth in Gloucestershire.
"The theft of these hard drives from a secure location, where they were subject to physical protection standards consistent with the Data Handling Review, is being treated with great seriousness," a Ministry of Defence statement says.
Personal data of serving and former RAF staff were on the hard drives, the MoD adds.
