The
data management practices of employees are often not in line with company policies regarding
backup storage, new research has shown.
A survey carried out by Kroll Ontrack has revealed that 61 per cent of workers store data on an independent drive rather than a company network when backing up information.
Furthermore, 44 per cent of respondents stated that their preferred storage location was not backed up - prompting further data security risks to a business.
Jeff Pederson, manager of operations for Ontrack Data Recovery, commented: "With the majority of employees saving to unprotected, local drives, companies could be at risk for losing anything from project plans and spreadsheets to customer data and financial information."
Visa chief enterprise risk officer Ellen Richey recently noted that firms should invest in stronger
data security practices during the economic downturn, as the likelihood of a business being targeted for fraud has increased in recent months.
