Businesses can now benefit from a range of online backup and disaster recovery options, it has been revealed.

Paul Korzeniowski wrote in an article for Byte & Switch that there are at present two major forms of online backup dominating the marketplace: server backup systems and single system backup options.

Each has its own benefits with the former being of best use to large busineses aiming to store large quantities of data quickly, while the former could be of more use to smaller enterprises using only single machines.

Furthermore, Mr Korzeniowski added that the future would appear bright for the online backup industry, with more companies deciding that this form of disaster recovery failsafe is right for them every month.

Meanwhile, according to Mike Laverick, data backup solutions should be thoroughly tested before being used in a live environment.

He noted in an article for Search Server Virtualisation that IT staff should ensure the software is functioning properly or could risk massive data losses if backups are not completed successfully.
