The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has signed a contract to implement a new email archiving platform, as well as strategies to store and backup data more efficiently, it has been reported.

LSE wants backup and disaster recovery for its data and critical systems held on 97 servers, a total of more than 40 terabytes of information, meaning that critical information can be accessed in times of interruption.

Commenting on the move, Adrian Ellison, assistant director in IT services at the LSE, says that the July 7th London bombings highlighted the importance of the need for backup sites away from its central London hub.

"We are now very much leading the way among our peers by adopting an outsourced and multi-location approach to data recovery and email availability," he adds.

An Information Week poll found that 59 per cent of those questioned cited fear of litigation as to why they had an email archiving system in place.ADNFCR-1851-ID-18882647-ADNFCR
