London IT data security conference

An IT security summit is being held in London's Royal Lancaster Hotel between September 29th and October 1st, by IT analysts Gartner.
"New technologies, delivery models and digital ways of doing business mean that even successful security efforts are rapidly becoming obsolete," Gartner says ahead of the conference, which could be related to the increasing number of
data storage and
data compliance breaches by authorities.
"Increasingly mobile and distributed technologies, along with employee-owned devices, will require new forms of monitoring and
data protection," the website says.
An episode concerning such a device is the lost memory pen by a Birmingham police officer containing data about terrorists.
Virtualisation will provide the opportunity for more effective policy enforcement, which could include the
data compliance practices of staff.
Furthermore, security awareness is needed to make sure regulations against data leakage are met, Gartner adds.
The Information Commissioner's Office has legal powers to ensure that organisations comply with the requirements of the
Data Protection Act, according to its website.
