Daily backups are forgotten about by the majority of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), a study has found.
While a fifth of those questioned by the 2008 SME Survey claimed to do weekly backups, 39 per cent said that this was a daily task for their firm, IT Web reports.
Meanwhile, 84 per cent said that they had anti-virus software deployed, dropping to 78 per cent for those who installed an anti-spyware product, while under half of businesses had a
disaster recovery plan.
"Load-shedding is the worst cause of data loss among local SMEs, with 37 per cent of those surveyed saying the load-shedding in the first half of 2008 had a high impact on their business," Arthur Goldstuck, managing director of World Wide Worx, told the technology website.
In related news, Privacy International has said that the proposed central communications database, which could be enforced in the UK, may move away from its goal of tracking down terrorists and head towards making internet service providers and telephone companies provide information on non-relevant conversations.
