Large firms 'need DR combination'

Category: Data destruction

9 December, 2008

Disaster recovery (DR) is the central point to a firm's business continuity plan to enable critical processes to become up and running again.

Such is the assertion of What PC?, which states that large organisations will need to use a combination of offsite replication and data backup and management to form a comprehensive DR plan.

And the development of data management technology, storage and networks means that different data recovery solutions have come to the fore, the resource continues.

Commenting on virtualisation as one way to approach enterprise DR, Graham Titterington, principal analyst at researcher Ovum, tells the IT forum: "The big advantage of virtualisation in DR is that you do not need an identical server hardware configuration to replicate the system, which includes the data and the applications."

Meanwhile, Maxine Holt, senior research analyst at Butler Group, recently told Computing that medium-sized firms are struggling with business continuity because other priorities such as tackling a fire are taking precedence.ADNFCR-1851-ID-18920568-ADNFCR
