Laptop backup 'good idea for data management this xmas'

Online data recovery has been suggested as a perfect gift this Christmas for individuals worried about the safety of their data.

James Gaskin wrote in his blog for IT World that the use of USB drives to store sensitive information has two major drawbacks.

These are the size of a USB stick - which is small and can therefore be easily misplaced - and also the fact that few USB drives are encrypted meaning that if that stick is lost then anyone can access your files.

He therefore argued that online backup services provide a greater degree of safety and peace of mind and are also becoming more affordable for home users.

Meanwhile, Kayleigh Bateman recently wrote in an article for CRN that research conducted by IT support firm Connect has found that the number of firms taking up online backup solutions in the last year has grown significantly in comparison to 2007.

The research showed that over a fifth (22 per cent) of UK businesses are now using this form of data security.
