IT going green 'to save costs'

Category: Data management

18 February, 2009

Many IT firms are choosing to go green in their pursuit of cheaper data management, it has been claimed.

James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, has said that businesses are implementing automated solutions to ensure PCs and other electrical devices are switched off when not in use.

He commented: "The idea of greater controls on energy is increasingly popular ... partly because of the environmental stuff but largely because of the cost savings."

In addition, Mr Murray noted that for large firms, improving energy efficiency can bring about large savings, as saving a few seconds of power on a thousand PCs every day can soon add up to large amounts.

According to the Kyocera Environmental Office Research 2008 report, last year 57 per cent of businesses implemented an environmental policy, whilst 68 per cent already have environmental measures in place.
