ICO launches privacy tool

Following a series of
data security breaches in the NHS and the government, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has launched an online privacy checker.
An online quiz allows you to discover how safe your data is by asking questions such as your name, age and whether or not you use the same PIN and password for a number of organisations.
"The more people that use their rights to check what information is held about them, the stronger the signal to organisations that the mismanagement of people's personal details will not be tolerated," says deputy ICO commissioner David Smith.
Data can fall into the wrong hands or be held for longer than it should, he adds.
Research by ICM found that 44 per cent of people in the UK have never considered contacting an organisation to discover what data it holds about them.
And the ICO also urges people to familiarise themselves with the
Data Protection Act which covers
data compliance and
data security.
In recent news, the NHS lost four disks containing information on tens of thousands of employees after they were posted to the payroll service provider.
