The introduction of a national high-speed broadband network in the UK could help firms transfer large quantities of data more easily, it has been claimed.
Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, has said that companies would benefit from government investment in this area, as it would allow them to send and receive data more easily, improving
disaster recovery readiness for those who have embraced online backup and storage.
He commented: "If you're running a business, the cost of moving large chunks of data is still very prohibitive in terms of the costs and the timescale to actually make that transfer from point to point."
Mr Phillips added that having a high-speed network would allow businesses to take on larger projects and would ultimately help reinvigorate the economy.
According to the Caio Review of Barriers to Investment in Next Generation Access, 60 per cent of homes in the UK now have a broadband connection.
