Green storage 'the latest buzzword'

Category: Data management

Companies are looking to obtain the greenest data storage solution when it comes to backing up their data, it has been revealed.

Research and Markets has revealed that many data backup providers are now developing environmentally friendly solutions in order to cut back on the industry's global carbon footprint - which is the same as that of the aviation sector.

Therefore, companies which can boast good green credentials are benefiting from improved customer levels as a result of this shift in preference.

An unnamed data analyst commented: "While going green is a vision of the enterprise industry, there are numerous challenges around the identified key enabling areas of focus that include virtualisation, online data backup, tiered storage, de-duplication and data compression."

Meanwhile, James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, recently commented that more businesses are implementing automated solutions to ensure PCs and other electrical devices are switched off when not in use.

He noted that this rise in green practices has come about because of many companies' growing concern regarding their environmental impact.
