ERP data storage 'needs thoroughly planning'

Migrating to shared
data storage through enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is not an inconvenient option for firms so long as they plan in advance, it has been said.
The more thorough the planning around
data storage the less likely that high costs and mistakes will be incurred, the National Computing Centre (NCC) revealed.
However, a recent survey by Agresso found that ERP systems are not providing firms with the architectural agility needed to adapt to a modern and changing business environment.
Firms with ERP may want to adopt more efficient
data storage practices, after the poll also discovered that 43 per cent of respondents claim they have to continuously make changes "as needed".
Michael Dean, director of advisory services at the NCC, said ERP
data storage solutions are complex and, as such, firms should enter the deployment completely prepared.
ERP systems often use a unified database for
data storage and have many components including software and hardware.
