Ensure staff understand business survival strategies

Making sure that staff understand business continuity plans is key to smooth disaster recovery, it has been argued.

Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, has said that companies which adopt strict business continuity plans should ensure that all members of staff are briefed and up to speed as to what action to take in the event of an emergency.

By focusing on assessment and delegation of tasks dependent upon an individual's strengths, firms are better placed to weather difficult circumstances, Ms Fairweather claimed.

She commented: "It may also be an issue with line management and can be a signal sometimes for employers to assess their HR situation."

Meanwhile, a recent survey by Avaya showed that unexpected absences could be costing small to medium-sized businesses up to £25,000 per annum.

The survey highlighted the need for small businesses to adopt technology that bolsters flexibility and gives workers the motivation and support they need to succeed.
