Email archiving 'can aid data recovery'

Effectively archiving emails can aid data recovery and ensure data availability, it has been asserted.

Beth Pariseau writes for SearchStorage of the advantages offered by email data archiving.

She explains that moving electronic communications away from primary storage can help to ensure mailboxes are not clogged by "stub files".

But data availability may be ensured as part of an email storage optimisation effort including secondary backup storage, she notes.

"The product should allow access to emails via a web browser, automatically copy messages to the archive and delete them from primary storage," Ms Pariseau contends.

She adds that there may be a need to permit emails to be restored to the individual's inbox if desired.

Her assertions follow similar guidance from industry analyst Forrester, which recently stressed that data availability is an important element of backup solutions.

This is due to the potential for firms to face legal summons and security inspections, the research organisation stated.ADNFCR-1851-ID-18745857-ADNFCR
