DR plans 'should be publicised'

Category: Data recovery

15 December, 2008

Disaster recovery (DR) plans should be publicised by businesses in order to improve rescue times, it has been alleged.

Linda Haugstead wrote in her blog for Multichannel News that businesses need to do a better job of publicising contact points in the event of a crisis.

Ms Haugstead noted that when a company is faced with a DR situation clients of the firm need to be aware of how best to contact the company so as not to impede DR efforts.

She further noted that it is imperative to give consumers information in the event of a disaster so as to ensure that they do not become increasingly frustrated by a slower service which is inevitable in the event of a disaster.

Meanwhile, Doug Cassell recently wrote for the Examiner that DR plans should be kept as simple as possible in order to facilitate a faster response should the unforeseen take place.

He noted that staff involved in the recovery of data should not be sidetracked by tasks that are outside of their remit, which could unduly affect the recovery time.
