Data streams growing "faster than ever"

The increase in the amount of information being handled by data management companies is continuing to grow at a tremendous rate, it has been suggested.
Mario Apicella, storage adviser for InfoWorld, has commented in his blog that storage firms are now routinely transferring petabytes of data.
However, he noted that many
data management programs are now reaching the limit of what they can handle and that a next generation of metadata handling software is required to move the industry forward.
Mr Apicella noted that in order for this to become a reality however, there needs to be a uniform approach to data management across business and new methods for classifying and finding data need to be implemented.
Meanwhile, computing.co.uk recently reported that firms which utilise offsite backup systems should be better prepared to weather any natural disaster which affects their company.
The website noted that businesses which fail to show sufficient forethought and prepare for a crisis properly might not survive if anything unforeseen comes their way.
