The European data storage market remains in a buoyant condition despite the ongoing global economic downturn, a new report has claimed.

The results of IDC's annual European storage survey entitled Understanding User Needs in a Changing Economic Climate have shown that in order to deal with the effects of the economic downturn many businesses are maintaining IT and data management budgets in a bid to improve business continuity preparedness.

Furthermore, investment in new technologies - such as virtual networks - is driving forward the data storage industry.

Eric Sheppard, program manager for EMEA storage research at IDC, commented: "Changing economic conditions and new technologies such as server and storage virtualisation are clearly altering the way European storage managers design and deploy their storage infrastructure."

And in related news, Enterprise Storage Forum recently revealed that many businesses are now focusing on reducing carbon emissions by employing solid-state disk drives in a bid to help reduce the industry's environmental impact.
