There is a need for
data storage facilities to respond to the changing demands placed on them by a business, it has been asserted.
Research from IDC indicates that data centres are currently undergoing a rapid period of transformation.
Technologies such as virtualisation and new priorities for companies when making cost allocations are identified as driving this.
Lucinda Borovick, research vice-president for data centre networks at IDC, says: "The data centre is in the midst of unprecedented change driven by a combination of factors all converging to make the data centre a real-time responsive resource for organisations."
The analyst is predicting that investment in networks for
data storage facilities is likely to result in compound annual growth of six per cent in the years leading to 2012.
IDC previously reported growing demand for networked data
storage solutions among organisations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
As a result, the sector recorded growth in the 12 months to the second quarter of 2008 measured at 20.3 per cent.
