Well-meaning employees can compromise
data security when trying to work more efficiently, it has been claimed.
Aberdeen Group suggests that many workers evade company policies in an attempt to improve their own efficiency.
But this can result in breaches in
data security, the organisation reveals.
Vice-president and research fellow for IT security Derek E Brink says: "The majority of data loss incidents are associated with simple human error and by well-meaning employees going around policies in trying to carry out their jobs."
However, among best-in-class businesses the rate of incidences of
data security breaches among employees is 27 per cent lower than the market average.
Tim Dickinson recently wrote for PC World of the difficulties posed to companies looking to ensure
data security for remote workers.
He asserted that people working from home may store information on their own computers and other equipment, outside of the control of the company.
