Data security advice for firms

Category: Data management

2 July, 2009

Companies have been offered a number of helpful tips for improving their data security during this period of financial difficulty.

Edward Minyard, certified continuity manager at Accenture, told Channel Insider that businesses should look to constantly test firewalls and other security systems by employing IT professionals to attempt to hack their network.

In this way, Mr Minyard noted, any flaws of inadequacies can be picked up on and the system can be tightened.

Furthermore, he stated that businesses should look to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of installing new security applications, as some will be regarded as "must-haves", while others could be redundant.

The Belfast Telegraph recently reported that businesses need to be constantly aware of their data security responsibilities when it comes to handling confidential consumer and employee information.

Companies which do not take these responsibilities seriously and suffer a data breach as a result of poor data management could find themselves in very hot water indeed, the paper noted.
