Businesses have been advised that they can reduce redundancy rates in
data storage servers and other backups by investing deduplication technology.
Network World has reported that companies which do not currently deduplicate their files could be maintaining up to 50 times the actual amount of data in their servers than they need to.
Replication of information is a common occurrence in a server and by removing those files that are not unique a business can improve its data management efficiency considerably, the website advised.
In addition, data deduplication can provide real benefits to businesses looking to cut back on server space, as removing repeated data will free up areas of drives for other more important information.
Meanwhile, Search Storage recently outlined the two main forms of data deduplication.
It stated that software-based systems can be more cost-effective to install; however, hardware-based systems provide greater data management efficiency and allow deduplication to take place as a file ins initially stored or created.
