Data deduplication issues to consider

Category: Data management

28 May, 2009

Businesses interested in increasing the capacity of their data storage have often turned to data deduplication; however, there are a number of issues which firms must consider prior to doing so, it has been claimed.

ZD Net Asia has reported that companies must ensure that any deduplication technology is compatible with current data management systems and should also consider the impact that the process could have on data backup performance while it is running.

In addition, the website noted that scalability should be a factor to regard, as growth in data storage will often mean that data deduplication activities will be more complex.

Finally, in order to ensure the process achieves the desired data storage reduction results, it is important to consider the effectiveness of any solution prior to a long-term investment.

Meanwhile, SearchDataBackup.com recently reported that the need for data deduplication continues to grow for many businesses due to the increasing amount of information being handled by firms and the shrinking amount of data storage space which they possess.
