Storage needs can be reduced by data de-duplication technology being deployed by organisations, it has been noted, while such a technique could be important for the disaster recovery plans of a firm.

According to CIOL, redundant data can be eliminated and replaced by an indicator to the unique data copy, which brings more efficient use of disk space.

Better recovery time objectives also come from such storage methods, allowing longer disk retention periods and savings on expenditures, the news resource continues.

Continuing the assessment of what data de-duplication means for the disaster recovery plans of enterprises, Dave Russell, Gartner's research vice-president for storage technologies and strategies, tells SearchStorage: "Users don't need more tools, they need richer tools in unified recovery management that includes the data de-duplication and other new technologies."

Furthermore, he adds that "tangible business results" come from deploying such backup solutions and is especially helpful in the data heavy technology-led world.ADNFCR-1851-ID-18879219-ADNFCR
