Data availability 'key for SMBs'

Small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) need to ensure they have round-the-clock access to recovery services for their data, it has been stated.

ByteStart has reported that many SMBs can find it difficult when dealing with data management and data recovery professionals as they feel they are being too demanding should they suffer a data loss out of regular nine-to-five working hours.

However, the small business news portal stated that all SMBs should make sure that 24-hour data availability provision is written into any contract they have with data management suppliers as a matter of course, as this will make it easier to recover lost information no matter what time an incident occurs.

It also helps to backup critical files at regular intervals in order to better ensure information does not become lost or corrupted, the website noted.

Meanwhile, Andrew Brewerton, technical director at BakBone Software, recently commented that despite the effects of the recession, companies are continuing to invest in data backup as a way of improving data security and disaster recovery preparedness.
