Cutting budgets 'not way forward'

Company IT directors have been warned of the potential perils of cutting costs at a recent Gartner symposium, reports ComputerWeekly.
Instead, the analyst's representative Dario Scagliotti told chief information officers to address any weak elements of their data handling preparations.
By doing so, delegates were told that they may be able to highlight the importance of IT to their organisation.
The comments may be of interest to any firms considering cutting their IT departments'
disaster recovery preparations in an attempt to save costs.
"IT is a service to the business - it is crucial to create value together," the Gartner spokesperson explained.
Meanwhile, a number of government departments have reported increased expenditure on IT systems, reports ZDNet.
The schools, culture, transport and health departments all increased expenditure on technology over the 2007-08 financial year.
Companies may wish to take the government's lead by raising their own budgets on areas such as
data management and
disaster recovery.
