Cost-cutting 'led to data mishaps'

Organisations cutting their security and privacy budgets have contributed to a wave of data breach incidents, it has been reported.

Enterprises often use the excuse that because an information management blunder has not occurred as of yet, money spent on preventing such an incident can therefore be cut, Computer Weekly reports.

However, firms may be wise to spend that little bit extra on the services of a data management provider to avoid what could be high costs and a damaged reputation if anything unplanned should occur.

"The pressure is on to maximise asset value and this will mean milking databases for every possible usage. Personal data will get used, abused, sold and mis-sold in increasingly desperate attempts to generate sales," the IT resource notes.

It was previously reported by the forum that Dario Scagliotti from Gartner advised that company directors should be aware of the potentially severe consequences of cutting IT costs.ADNFCR-1851-ID-18875418-ADNFCR
