Businesses need to be more aware of the dangers of malware and fraudsters or face the possibility of
lost data and earnings, it has been claimed.
Alan Phillips, chief executive officer of 7Safe, said fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated in their methods and are creating phishing attacks that are more convincing than ever before.
He commented: "It is common sense to be cautious about releasing any personal financial information on the internet. Of course, victims of phishing attacks think that they are providing information to a legitimate source, such as their own bank."
According to Network Box, the number of phishing attacks that took place in the run-up to Christmas rose by 57 per cent in comparison to November's figures and these levels have been maintained throughout January.
The company revealed Brazil continues to dominate as the top source of viruses, with 15.7 per cent of all malware originating form the South American country. In addition, Germany appeared in the top ten list for the first time this month.
