Centralised management 'for audit purposes'

Category: Data compliance

3 December, 2008

Implementing a centralised management control will ensure that data can be managed from one location, thus making it easier to comply with audits.

Such is the assertion of Infoworld, which states that such a technique may minimise the cost of complying with data protection legislation, as well as reducing the need for scores of IT staff to deal with security issues, allowing them to spend time on other areas.

Furthermore, centralised management provides for event monitoring and incident details which need to be delivered to auditors to prove that the organisation is respectful of data compliance, the resource continues.

As such, it notes that although a plethora of security solutions have been deployed, "companies are finding that they may have not done much to actually lower their risk because they didn't actually understand what data needed to be protected in the first place".

In related news, Personnel Today recently advised organisations to ensure that their human resources team were aware of the main points of the Data Protection Act.ADNFCR-1851-ID-18910824-ADNFCR
