Businesses are overwhelmed by the amount of security needed to protect their computer networks, research shows.
Often companies do not have enough tools to combat data leakages and unknown viruses, Forrester research says.
Vendors are adding security tools to their portfolio rapidly and businesses can be confused by the amount of IT often needed.
Firewalls and anti-malware alone may not combat the security issues firms face today, the research warns.
Companies also need an alternate data centre in case of a disaster at the primary site, related Forrester research finds.
To aid
disaster recovery, the alternate centre should be an appropriate distance away from the original.
However, such data centres should not be ignored until disaster hits and they need investment to ensure businesses' operations are improved while the company can grow, the research says.
Data centre staff also need to be experienced to manage the IT structure.
Search engine Google has applied for a patent for a floating data centre, which would be powered by wave motion.
