Another MI5 security incident

A burglar climbed through an open window in a secret MI5 hideaway and stole a palmtop computer containing secret intelligence documents, it has been revealed.
In a
data security scenario that could appear to be happening at a rate of one a day, the burglar climbed into the house in Greater Manchester in what police describes as an opportunist rather than targeted offence.
The handheld computer is believed to contain information relating to terrorism, but the police say the files were encrypted.
However, in
data compliance news related to the encryption of files, experts at MI5's National Technical Assistance Centre broke an encryption on a paedophile's computer, revealing 6,980 images of children, the Chester Evening Leader reports, which could lead some people to question how safe encrypted data is and whether staff should be made more aware of
data compliance procedures.
Over half of people who have been the victim of a
data security breach say they were not contacted by the organisation responsible until more than one month after the incident, the Ponemon Institute discovered.
