What we do

Between Sept 2007 and Sept 2008, Kroll Ontrack Data Recovery specialists saw a 70% increase in data recovery requests for flash media and solid-state drives (SSD).

We have therefore developed our capabilities and processes to include the recovery of data from flash media and both IDE and SATA solid-state drives.

The two most common causes of data loss in flash media and solid-state drives are:

• Accidental physical damage
• Power interruption to the device causing electronics failure and/or data corruption.

"Flash memory is a key technology enabling new designs for many products in the business and consumer markets. However, the new developments and enhancements to the technology - larger storage capacity, diverse applications and performance - don't exempt flash and SSD media from data loss.

As products with flash and SSD continue to become more prevalent, the more critical the data they store becomes. They may eventually even replace hard disk drives. Consequently, it is vital that users of this storage technology have options for recovery."
