I knew how critical data is,
When I had to call ontrack.

This really is not my field at all,

My primary concern is not even a cluster of data,
Out of so many ones and naughts I am not a binary negotiator.
Once the results are predicted and the recovery goes ahead,
I'll rest easy that there is a new platter to hold my data that is not held in my head.

But this time it will be printed on sheets of paper,
So no digital file corruption can make my mind errupt later.
It all goes to show that pain is the only fruitful lifelong lesson,

"In December 2006, I visited my Brother in the US for Christmas. I took with me my brand new Apple Macbook and my brand new 250gb Freecom external hard drive. I had bought both as my Microsoft Laptop had finally given up the ghost and in the nick of time I had transferred all my files to the Freecom. I had bought a 120gb back up Freecom but in the clamor to pack presents arrange cat babysitters etc, I didn’t get the chance. There was 15 years worth of photographs, documents etc on it in other words, my life! In the US somehow the hard drive failed and I couldn’t access anything, there were pictures I sell, hours worth of projects which couldn’t be replaced and also memories which were treasured especially of our Mother who had died the year before. Needless to say I was devastated.

I came back to England and sent the hard drive to a company in Warrington who were cheap (lesson for you! cheapest are definitely not always best!) and supposedly Apple experts. They used software on it for weeks, never once called me to give an update, I was constantly chasing them. They eventually ‘decided’ that there was nothing they could do as a professional lab was needed and I asked them to return it to me. That took a further week of chasing to get it sent back. I contacted Freecom and they recommended Kroll Ontrack. I rang them and got Marcos who was my Call Centre contact throughout, this in itself was fab as I wasn’t speaking to and explaining myself to a different person every time I had a query. I eventually received the hard drive back from the cowboys and sent it to Marcos. I didn’t have to check it had arrived ok as Marcos emailed me as soon as it arrived. It was very obvious that they have a very strict regime for traceability. Within days, I received a file to check which detailed what was salvageable on my hard drive. It was on their bespoke software which was very easy to use. I liked this cheap initial check as it meant I didn’t have to shell out loads of money if only a few files had survived.

This is where it got interesting. None of the files were mine, so I contacted Marcos straight away. They ran the diagnostic again and also checked the hardware in case a mistake had been made. I even spoke to the technician Marie who was really helpful. I was intrigued that the files on this mysterious drive were all Apple garageband files so I called the Warrington company back to be told casually, "Oh Yea I’ve got your hard drive here". When I asked if they wanted the other one back the guy said "Naw just bin it". Obviously there was going to be another happy customer there. I finally got the correct hard drive to Marcos who very kindly sorted another diagnostic free of charge and within days I had all my files back. I can’t tell you how happy I was, it was like having your house burn down and somebody being able to magic everything back the way it was before. I had my life back.

The customer care was second to none......communication, expertise, friendliness, professionalism, everything was worth the money. I am not a big conglomerate with a massive budget but I was treated that way and to me a company who treats all their customers like they are Royalty are worth recommending every time. Thank you."
